England, Venezuela reach maiden finals at U-20 World Cup in Korea Republic

first_imgEngland and Venezuela beat Italy and Uruguay respectively to make it to their maiden finals at the FIFA U-20 World Cup, which is set to take place on June 11.It is a first for both teams – Venezuela have reached their first FIFA final and England have made it to their first U-20 World Cup climax.Both teams registered contrasting victories as England thrashed Italy 3-1 while Venezuela advanced on penalties.Despite being the tournament’s top scorers, Venezuela were largely frustrated.Uruguary opened the scoring in the 49th minute through Nicolas De La Cruz, who slotted home a penalty after Agustin Canobbio was fouled in the penalty area.Venezuela salvaged the game in the 91st minute when Samuel Sosa slammed a 25-yard free kick home.As extra time failed to yield a result, the game went to penalties where Venezuela won 4-3.England, on the other hand, easily dispatched Italy, thanks to second-half strikes from Dominic Solanke and Ademola Lookman.Though Italy were the first to score through Riccardo Orsilini in the second minute, Solanke’s brace in the 66th and 88th minutes and Lookman’s close range strike in the 77th minute sealed the deal for the English.last_img read more
