Music-Streaming Service Spotify Signs Major Partnership Deal With Samsung

The biggest music-streaming service in the world, Spotify, has signed a new major partnership with Samsung, the biggest smartphone producer in the world. Spotify will now be the official music service provider for all of Samsung’s products, including smartphones, televisions, tablets, watches, and speakers. In the future, when you purchase a Samsung product, Spotify will be integrated into the set-up process on new devices, as well as merged into Samsung’s voice assistant program and Samsung’s smart-home apps.Although never directly addressed by Spotify CEO Daniel Ek, there is now a clear competition between Spotify and Apple‘s Apple Music, as the latter app comes readily installed on all of Apple’s iPhones and also just landed a deal to give Verizon smartphone customers six months of free service. With Samsung being the biggest smartphone producer in the world, Spotify should have a less strenuous battle reaching smart-phone users around the world. Plus, unlike Apple Music’s subscription-only service, Spotify offers an ad-supported listening tier that costs nothing for the consumer, allowing a more pleasant experience for first-time Spotify users unfamiliar with the app’s interface. In a recent Q&A with his own company, CEO Daniel Ek explained that the partnership,Reduces the friction for users to get Spotify up and running on multiple Samsung devices once the accounts have been linked” and “allows us to create a seamless music listening experience together for the user that would be hard for either of us to build alone.” He added, “We believe that this significant long-term partnership will provide Samsung users across millions of devices with the best possible music streaming experience, and make discovering new music easier than ever — with even more opportunities to come.So what does this mean for Spotify? It’s likely we will see a rise in overall Spotify users and artists joining the platform. It also could mark the transition out of a completely Apple-product dominated world, but we’ll just have to wait and see. [H/T Rolling Stone] read more

PBC Elections Office Prepares for Surge in Vote-By-Mail Requests

first_imgThe Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections office is making some changes to how we vote ahead of the August primary, with coronavirus concerns looming. To start, workers are preparing to meet a surge in requests from residents to vote by mail.“We did order one million extra envelopes because we were worried after seeing in March and how crazy that was,” Supervisor of Elections Wendy Sartory Link tells our news partner, WPTV NewsChannel 5.On Primary Day in March, people requested mail-in ballots past the deadline due to fears about waiting in polling lines amid the COVID-19 pandemic.Nearly 300,000 voters have already signed up for mail-in ballots.Sartory Link has also asked Gov. Ron DeSantis to expand early voting from two to three weeks, and to allow several voting precincts to share the same polling location. “We had 227 of our locations were private polling locations, and we are still in the process of hearing from all of them, as to whether or not they are going to allow us to come back, but at this point we’ve had a lot tell us no,” says Sartory Link. She adds that the strategy could help to minimize the poll worker shortage that occurred in March, when too many were either sick or were afraid to get sick.Visit the Palm Beach County Elections website to request a vote-by-mail ballot.last_img read more

Powered by Firework Legendary Indian attacking batsman Virender Sehwag feels Virat Kohli is the best batsman of this generation. In an interview at New Delhi he stated that when the Indian skipper is on form, he is unstoppable. And that if he continues to increase his batting prowess and hunger for runs, he will break at least a few of Tendulkar’s monumental records. Kohli, who scored two back-to-back centuries in the recently concluded ODI series against the West Indies, has 43 ODI centuries to his name and just needs seven more to break Sachin Tendulkar’s world record of 49 centuries.Advertisement “At the moment, Virat (Kohli) is the best batsman. The way he is scoring centuries, the way he is scoring runs, he is the best. I am sure he will break most of Sachin Tendulkar’s records,” Virender Sehwag told in an interview.Advertisement While the ‘Master-Blaster’ scored 18426 runs in his ODI career at an average of 44.83, Kohli has a staggering average of 60.31 in 239 ODIs. However, in Test cricket the captain of the ‘Men in Blues’ is way behind of Tendulkar’s centuries record with Kohli on 25 centuries (77 Tests), 26 behind the record 51 centuries (200 Tests) by Sachin.“But there is one record no one can break. That is, his (Sachin) 200 Test matches record. I don’t think anyone can play more than 200 Test matches,” Sehwag added.Advertisement Advertisementlast_img read more
