first_imgWhy Indian Premier League 2019 will be huge for Hardik PandyaIPL 2019 will be an important tournament for Hardik Pandya. He has played only 6 internationals since his injury in the Asia Cup in September and India will be eager for him to find form ahead of the World Cup.advertisement India Today Web Desk MumbaiMarch 14, 2019UPDATED: March 14, 2019 21:47 IST Hardik Pandya joined the Mumbai Indians IPL 2019 camp after regaining fitness from lower back injury. (BCCI Photo)Hardik Pandya, who was rested for the T20I and ODI series against Australia, has regained full fitness and he was spotted training with Mumbai Indians on Tuesday. He even imitated MS Dhoni’s helicopter shot after returning to the cricket field.Hardik Pandya was injured during an Asia Cup match against Pakistan in September 2019 and missed the the rest of the tournament. He also missed India’s home series against West Indies and the T20I and Test series against Australia. Hardik Pandya, however, did play a Ranji Trophy match for Baroda and scored 73 besides picking up 7 wickets in the match.Hardik Pandya was all set to play the ODIs in Australia before the Koffee with Karan controversy broke out leading to a suspension that was lifted a few days later. Pandya travelled to New Zealand and played three ODIs and three T20Is.Almost certain to make the World Cup squad, Hardik Pandya has played only 7 matches including 6 internationals since the Asia Cup in September. India have completed all their international assignments before the World Cup and the only chance for Hardik Pandya to get back into the groove is the IPL..Most of India’s top guns are likely to be rotated and rested throughout the IPL. However, the Indian team management would be keen to see how Pandya reacts to the workload in the Indian summer. In 2018, Hardik Pandya had his best stint with Mumbai Indians with the ball picking up 18 wickets. He scored 260 runs including a fifty. In 2019, he will be more intensely scrutinised.advertisementVirat Kohli did say the IPL won’t impact team selection for the World Cup but Hardik Pandya’s case is different. He will need to score runs, take wickets and show he has completely recovered.Along with Vijay Shankar, Hardik Pandya could be crucial to India’s chances in England. Ravindra Jadeja has bowled well in patches but his form with the bat in ODIs has left a lot to be desired.IPL 2019 will be huge for Hardik Pandya and India. He is the kind of all-rounder Virat Kohli will be eager to have in the team for the World Cup. For starters, he is a better bowler than Vijay Shankar and far more electric on the field. Besides, despite all the early promise in New Zealand, Vijay Shankar failed to deliver in the ODIs against Australia and that will be cause for concern as India head to the World Cup.Also Read | Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul needed the wrap on their knuckles: Ravi ShastriAlso Read | Fit-again Hardik Pandya joins Mumbai Indians in pre-tournament campFor sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports.
